Now, me and a couple of my friends have been going to Rolling Pot (Kennedy and Steeles, right in front of Pacific Mall) for awhile now, but needless to say, after last night, I'll be looking for a new hot pot place.

The night started off a little awkward we go in as usual, and ask for the midnight menu. The waiter brings it over, and makes a comment, not quite rude but a little more forward than necessary Why do you want the midnight menu? There's nothing on it! So I kind of laugh it off and tell him it's cheaper.

Anyway, me and my friends get on with our meal, things are going well. The waiter does come over at one point though, and asks us to quiet down a bit - understandable, me and my friends can get a bit loud and there were other patrons in the restaurant.

We tone things down and he comes again, and asks again for us to quiet down. Okay..I guess we were louder than we thought we were. We tone it down, and get on with the meal - we haven't eaten as much as we usually do.

The real problem arises when the check arrives. The total is $54.04 - as it should be. Now, it was the three of us eating so we split it three ways even. Each of us throws in $20, two twenty bills, a ten, two fives, and 4 pennies. I know the breakdown by heart because I had to borrow ten dollars from my friend so we worked out how much each person was putting in beforehand. Note that Rolling Pot automatically adds 10% service, so we expected and asked for change back. We could divide $6 in toonies amongst ourselves.

The waiter brings back $1, and I think he's joking around again - so I ask him in a joking tone Where's the rest of it? He looks a bit confused, so I say, I gave you $60.04 for the check. And then he claims that I gave $55.

So I'm getting upset now, and he goes back to the manager to clarify. She asks him if he saw how much was in the billfold (in Chinese mind you) and he says he's not sure. They refuse to give me our $5.

Now, I'm not one to squabble over $5. So I just say to them Okay, I know I gave you guys $60. I'm not gonna argue over five bucks with you - you can either give me my money, or I'll just just take my business elsewhere next time.

All the employees just look at me awkwardly and say I'm sorry, you gave me $55. Here's your dollar.

I tell them to keep it and the three of us walk out.

I have had people mischarge me for things and correct the situation, but never so blatant as to REFUSE to return change. I could tell the manager had no sense of trying to correct the situation or preserve business.

Anyway, I'm posting this as a message to warn the community. It bothers me that they could be doing this to every table they get, when it's blatantly robbing people of money.

I don't care about the $5, but if people spread the word about this, maybe they'll realize they can't do this to people and expect business.

Not only does this place offer the novelty of cooking your food yourself, the food tastes great, no matter what your having! Makes even the lousy cook feel great about their culinary skills!
The staff are a great bunch of people, very kind and courteous! It may take a while for some of them to pay attention to you when the place is really busy, but we've all got 2 hands and 2 legs!
The desert menu isn't the greatest, but after your initial dining experience, one would easily excuse the fact!

this place is great. the staff is very nice. this restaurant features HOT POT cooking, so all of the tables have built in flattop cool to touch (very high tech) burners and everyone gets their own pot of flavoured soup. u also get a menu of items that u can order, they have every kind of meat u can imagine, tons of veggies, noodles, seafood, tofu, and other yummy things cut in bite size pieces. so it's all you can eat, u just order whatever u want and they bring it to u on plates leaving it to u to cook it in your soup. once it's cooked the way u want it, u use your spoon and net like utensil to get it out of your soup. yum yum! the special part of this restaurant is that they have a sauce station that u can mix you own dipping sauce to flavor your food. soy sauce, coriander, green onions, garlic, vinegar, bbq sauce, sesseme seed oil, chili oil, etc. this place is really good b/c 1. it's clean and service is good 2. everyone gets their own pot, so you don't have to share (unlike other hot pot places) 3. high tech flat tabletop burners 4. sauce station 5. u get a sushi platter when u go for lunch or dinner 6. $12 dinners (all u can eat) after 10pm.
